Statement:

I draw from nature, landscape, abstract expressionism, and my own personal experiences as a minority in this country. In my work, I attempt to strike cohesiveness between painterly gesture and the physicality of collage. I enjoy using and re-using different materials, scraps of old handwritten letters, old train tickets, yellowing labels, torn newspapers, string, and other memorabilia, creating something new from something old. I also enjoy playing with textures of the found materials and the fluidity and opacity of paint. Remnants of imagery appear and disappear in my work as the materials are washed and worn by layers of paint. It is my intent to give the viewer a “glimpse” of not only my experiences but also recognizable fragments that remind them of their own memories.
